  • What is embroidery?

Embroidery is the embellishment of a fabric or garment in which colored threads are sewn onto the fabric to create a design. Although it may be done by hand, most embroidery today is done by machines.

What products lend themselves to embroidery?

There is a wide array of products that might be embroidered. Most common are fabrics such as shirts, jackets, caps, and baby items. Other popular areas are luggage, totes, animal collars, linens, aprons, briefcases, directors chairs--and the list goes on! The industry calls all of these substrates.

    What is the first step?

We convert your two dimensional work into stitches or thread--this is called "digitizing." If you have specialized artwork, such as a logo, the process is complex. If you only have standard lettering, the process is relatively simply. In addition, there are stock designs that can be incorporated into your desired product.

What is the charge for digitizing?

If it is a simple use of lettering, there probably will be no charge for the digitizing. If it is the incorporation of a stock design, our fee is $7 for designs we already have--if we have to purchase the design, we pass that charge on to you. If it is a matter of converting a logo to stitches, the price is based on the number of stitches--usually between $35 and $90.

    What is the next step?

Once you are satisfied with the digitation, we are ready to stitch your design on the substrate you have chosen. Since embroidery is three dimensional, the results are far more exciting than traditional silk screens or other imprinting methods. It carries a much higher perception of quality.

How many colors may I use?

As many as you would like. It is limited only by the colors of thread available. There is no additional charge for the number of colors.

    So how is pricing determined?

There is a basic minimum charge per each placement on the item being embroidered. If we provide the substrate, we include the minimum charge in the quoted price for the item. If you provide the substrate, we quote a price for adding embroidery. Each quote includes 10,000 stitches; any placement containing more stitches will incur an additional charge of $1.00 for each 1,000 stitches (or part thereof). To help you figure, the bulk of the embroidery we do comes within 10,000 stitches.

Why will you not assume the risk for customer-supplied items?

Although it is rare, machines sometimes "eat" items. And, there is the possibility of human error. If we have bought the substrate ourselves, we can easily replace it. If you have furnished it, we may not be able to replace it. Thus we insist that you take the risk.

    What is the turn-around time?

We are interested in providing quality work promptly. Most jobs will be done within a week. It would be rare for us to take two weeks--but we would like to say upfront that is a possibility.
